The Versatility of the Tetris Theme
The Tetris Theme is not only an inseparable part of Tetris, it's also a fantastic tune that fits a wide variety of situations.
The Tetris Theme has become synonymous with Tetris. Play any iteration of the game, and you’re bound to hear one of the many variations of the Tetris Theme. The song itself has a fascinating history behind it, initially appearing as a Russian folk tune called “Korobeiniki.” After Korobeiniki transformed into the Tetris Theme, it became larger than life.
Many musicians have showcased their passion for the Tetris Theme online with their own cover of the song. Additionally, with the presence of YouTube on your mobile phone, you can bring the Tetris Theme with you wherever you go. This has resulted in me listening to the Tetris Theme in some pretty interesting places. One such place is in the car.
On YouTube, I like to create playlists featuring nothing but different versions of the Tetris Theme. These include versions like Tetris on Game Boy, as well as instrumental covers. Then before I set off for my destination, I connect the phone and set my Tetris playlist to run from start to finish automatically.
Hearing the Tetris Theme in the car helps transform what would normally be a dull commute into a fun and invigorating game of Tetris. The road itself is the Matrix, and the cars the Tetriminos. The Tetris Theme helps me drive safer by increasing my focus, and by reminding me that caution is key. Other places I listen to the Tetris Theme include my house.
When it comes time for me to organize or clean something, such as straightening up my dresser, the Tetris Theme acts as a nice boost. It’s impossible not to enjoy a Tetris-like task when listening to the Tetris Theme. Even in complex situations, the Tetris Theme can be the perfect fit. If I feel anxiety prior to a dentist or doctor’s appointment, I make sure to bring my headphones along and listen to the Tetris Theme on my phone while in the waiting room.
Having grown up with Tetris, my brain always associates the Tetris Theme with positivity. In turn, this helps me stomach my fears and push through even the scariest of situations. I even listen to the Tetris Theme while playing other games! The Tetris Theme is definitely universal. While I’ll always associate it with Tetris first and foremost, it’s fun to experiment with other places to listen to it.
